Al TrautwigDear friends of Adelphi,

Welcome to the 2019 Adelphi University President’s Gala!

What a privilege and a joy it is for me to share a special evening and tremendous goal with you. Tonight, Adelphi family and friends come together to celebrate our shared mission to help current and future Panthers envision their destinies and begin building them at Adelphi University.

As you know, the President’s Gala raises funds that go directly to endowments that make an Adelphi education accessible and attainable for many students. Each year, our honorees help us establish powerful new scholarships and opportunities that enable us to keep transforming lives. In fact, many of our past honorees and many of the students who have benefited from their scholarships are here with us tonight—I encourage you to find them, meet them, hear their stories and appreciate how much your support is empowering them.

This year, seven Adelphi students benefitted from the President’s Student Success Scholarship that we established at last year’s gala. These students are juniors and seniors who hit a financial bump in the road that might have prevented them from getting to graduation. I am so delighted that we could help them stay on course.

Indeed, I have met many outstanding Adelphi students who make us proud—future leaders, artists, scientists, educators, caregivers, entrepreneurs and more. I am always in awe of their individual goals and how they tackle their dreams with remarkable drive and optimism—in our classrooms and labs, on our stages and athletic fields, in our clubs and organizations, in our community and far beyond.

Isn’t is a thrill to imagine the incredible futures that are taking shape right here at Adelphi? I am grateful to all of you—our Panthers, friends, guests, and sponsors—who, by supporting tonight’s President’s Gala, are helping us to continue that mission. Together, we are transforming the lives of Adelphi students.

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our honorees tonight, for their generosity, service and leadership. Trustee Michael Tiedemann, B.B.A. '89 and his wife Christine, and Paula Malone, Ph.D., are remarkable supporters of our students’ success and, after tonight, they will have helped make even more Adelphi opportunities available to current and future Panthers.

I hope you enjoy this evening with our Panther family. Thank you again for being my guests and for the meaningful impact you have made on students’ lives here at Adelphi.

All the best,
Christine M. Riordan, Ph.D.
President
